Sura 80: He Frowned (`Abasa) ( سورة عبس )
بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
١:عَبَسَ وَتَوَلّىٰ
[80:1] He (Muhammad) frowned and turned away.
٢:أَن جاءَهُ الأَعمىٰ
[80:2] When the blind man came to him.
٣:وَما يُدريكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكّىٰ
[80:3] How do you know? He may purify himself.
٤:أَو يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكرىٰ
[80:4] Or he may take heed, and benefit from the message.
٥:أَمّا مَنِ استَغنىٰ
[80:5] As for the rich man.
٦:فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدّىٰ
[80:6] You gave him your attention.
٧:وَما عَلَيكَ أَلّا يَزَّكّىٰ
[80:7] Even though you could not guarantee his salvation.
٨:وَأَمّا مَن جاءَكَ يَسعىٰ
[80:8] The one who came to you eagerly.
٩:وَهُوَ يَخشىٰ
[80:9] And is really reverent.
١٠:فَأَنتَ عَنهُ تَلَهّىٰ
[80:10] You ignored him.
١١:كَلّا إِنَّها تَذكِرَةٌ
[80:11] Indeed, this is a reminder.
١٢:فَمَن شاءَ ذَكَرَهُ
[80:12] Whoever wills shall take heed.
١٣:فى صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ
[80:13] In honorable scriptures.
١٤:مَرفوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ
[80:14] Exalted and pure.
١٥:بِأَيدى سَفَرَةٍ
[80:15] (Written) by the hands of messengers.
١٦:كِرامٍ بَرَرَةٍ
[80:16] Who are honorable and righteous.
١٧:قُتِلَ الإِنسٰنُ ما أَكفَرَهُ
[80:17] Woe to the human being; he is so unappreciative!
١٨:مِن أَىِّ شَىءٍ خَلَقَهُ
[80:18] What did He create him from?
١٩:مِن نُطفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ
[80:19] From a tiny drop, He creates him and designs him.
٢٠:ثُمَّ السَّبيلَ يَسَّرَهُ
[80:20] Then He points out the path for him.
٢١:ثُمَّ أَماتَهُ فَأَقبَرَهُ
[80:21] Then He puts him to death, and into the grave.
٢٢:ثُمَّ إِذا شاءَ أَنشَرَهُ
[80:22] When He wills, He resurrects him.
٢٣:كَلّا لَمّا يَقضِ ما أَمَرَهُ
[80:23] He shall uphold His commandments.
٢٤:فَليَنظُرِ الإِنسٰنُ إِلىٰ طَعامِهِ
[80:24] Let the human consider his food!
٢٥:أَنّا صَبَبنَا الماءَ صَبًّا
[80:25] We pour the water generously.
٢٦:ثُمَّ شَقَقنَا الأَرضَ شَقًّا
[80:26] Then we split the soil open.
٢٧:فَأَنبَتنا فيها حَبًّا
[80:27] We grow in it grains.
٢٨:وَعِنَبًا وَقَضبًا
[80:28] Grapes and pasture.
٢٩:وَزَيتونًا وَنَخلًا
[80:29] Olives and palms.
٣٠:وَحَدائِقَ غُلبًا
[80:30] A variety of orchards.
٣١:وَفٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا
[80:31] Fruits and vegetables.
٣٢:مَتٰعًا لَكُم وَلِأَنعٰمِكُم
[80:32] To provide life support for you and your animals.
٣٣:فَإِذا جاءَتِ الصّاخَّةُ
[80:33] Then, when the blow comes to pass.
٣٤:يَومَ يَفِرُّ المَرءُ مِن أَخيهِ
[80:34] That is the day when one flees from his brother.
٣٥:وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبيهِ
[80:35] From his mother and father.
٣٦:وَصٰحِبَتِهِ وَبَنيهِ
[80:36] From his spouse and children.
٣٧:لِكُلِّ امرِئٍ مِنهُم يَومَئِذٍ شَأنٌ يُغنيهِ
[80:37] Each one of them, on that day, worries about his own destiny.
٣٨:وُجوهٌ يَومَئِذٍ مُسفِرَةٌ
[80:38] Some faces on that day will be happy.
٣٩:ضاحِكَةٌ مُستَبشِرَةٌ
[80:39] Laughing and joyful.
٤٠:وَوُجوهٌ يَومَئِذٍ عَلَيها غَبَرَةٌ
[80:40] Other faces, on that day, will be covered with misery.
٤١:تَرهَقُها قَتَرَةٌ
[80:41] Overwhelmed by remorse.
٤٢:أُولٰئِكَ هُمُ الكَفَرَةُ الفَجَرَةُ
[80:42] These are the wicked disbelievers.
